Elevé par ses grands-parents, Jimmie apprend la guitare avec son voisin Blind Percy et commence à jouer sur le marché de Maxwell Street au milieu des années 40. Il joue régulièrement avec Eddie Taylor, Freddie King et Little Walter tout au long des années 50. A cette époque, Jimmie est surtout un musicien de studio - guitariste ou bassiste - pour différents leaders. Grâce à l'animateur radio Big Bill Hill, il rencontre Violet Muszynski qui dirige le label Bandera. Jimmie peut alors enregistrer en leader une poignée de titres intéressants (en particulier l'instrumental "Chicago jump" et "All my life") sous le nom de Lonesome Lee ou Jimmy Lee.
Raised by his grandparents, Jimmie learned the guitar with his neighbor Blind Percy and began playing in the Maxwell Street market in the mid-1940's. He played regularly with Eddie Taylor, Freddie King and Little Walter throughout the 50's. At this time, Jimmie was mostly a session musician - guitarist or bass player - for various leaders. Thanks to radio host Big Bill Hill, he meets Violet Muszynski who runs the Bandera label. Jimmie can then record as a leader a handful of interesting titles (in particular the instrumental "Chicago jump" and "All my life") under the names of Lonesome Lee or Jimmy Lee.

Cet album pour Delmark reste le véritable album de retour aux affaires de Jimmy après avoir été charpentier et chauffeur de taxi. Une pure tranche de Chicago Blues brut et hypnotique où Jimmy est bien supporté par un bon groupe : Scott Dirks (harmonica), Johnny Burgin (guitare) et Steve Cushing (batterie). "Lonely traveller", "Easy baby", "Leave my woman alone", "All my life", "44 blues" figurent parmi les meilleurs moments de cet album consistant.
This Delmark album remains Jimmy's true back-to-business album after being a carpenter and a cab driver. A pure slice of raw and hypnotic Chicago Blues where Jimmy is well supported by a good backing band : Scott Dirks (harmonica), Johnny Burgin (guitar) and Steve Cushing (drums). "Lonely traveler", "Easy baby", "Leave my woman alone", "All my life", "44 blues" appear among the best moments of this solid album.

Sur celui-ci, Jimmie rend hommage aux bluesmen avec lesquels il a joué ou ceux qui l'ont influencé. On trouve de bons moments comme "Ain't that loving you", "Drifting blues", "Three o'clock blues", "In love with you baby" ou "Last night".
This album produced by Scott Dirks remained unissued for a few years before being released in 2003 by Random Chance. On this one, Jimmie pays homage to the bluesmen he played with or those who influence him. We find good moments like "Ain't that loving you", "Drifting blues", "Three o'clock blues", "In love with you baby" or "Last night".

Il s'agit à nouveau d'un album acoustique mais cette fois Jimmie est épaulé par Lane à la seconde guitare et par Madison Slim à l'harmonica. On trouve beaucoup de reprises plutôt sympathiques ("Forty days forty nights", "I'm ready") et quelques titres personnels ("The girl I love", "All my life").
As for the previous opus, the album is co-produced by Chad Kassem and Jimmy D. Lane. It is again an acoustic album but this time Jimmie is supported by Lane on the second guitar and by Madison Slim on harmonica. There are a lot of rather nice covers ("Forty days forty nights", "I'm ready") and some personal titles ("The girl I love", "All my life").

Pour ce troisième album chez A.P.O., Jimmie est entouré d'un groupe de premier plan : "Wild Child" Butler (harmonica), Jimmy D. Lane (guitare), Bob Stroger (basse) et Sam Lay (batterie). Un beau programme de Chicago Blues traditionnel qui manque un petit peu de flamme par instants. On peut retenir "Lonely traveller", "Peaches", "Maxwell Street". Il était membre de la Maxwell Street Historic Preservation Coalition oeuvrant sans relâche pour la préservation de ce quartier historique. Malheureusement, Maxwell Street sera détruite à la fin de l'année 2000. Atteint par un cancer, sa santé s'est rapidement détériorée et il se suicide dans sa voiture en juin 2002.
For this third album on A.P.O., Jimmie is surrounded by a leading backing band : "Wild Child" Butler (harmonica), Jimmy D. Lane (guitar), Bob Stroger (bass) and Sam Lay (drums). A beautiful traditional Chicago Blues program that lacks a little bit of flame at times. We can point out "Lonely traveler", "Peaches", "Maxwell Street". He was a member of the Maxwell Street Historic Preservation Coalition working tirelessly for the preservation of this historic district. Unfortunately, Maxwell Street will be destroyed at the end of the year 2000. Affected by cancer, his health deteriorated rapidly and he committed suicide in his car in june 2002.
