R&B VOLTS FROM THE VEE-JAY VAULTS

Charly

1959

Son premier simple contient deux beaux titres Rhythm & Blues - Soul : "The home fires are brighter" et "I wanna be the only one" gravé dans la boutique de disques d'Alan Taylor.

That's when the crying begins", "I done you wrong", "I can't". Par contre, la partie Excello (en 1967 et 1968) - gravées entre Greenville et Nashville - me semble plus inégale malgré des pistes sympathiques comme "Watch your work it out", "I went off and cried" et "That's all I can do".

On the other hand, the Excello part (in 1967 and 1968) - recorded between Greenville and Nashville - seems to me more uneven despite nice tracks like "Watch your work it out", "I went off and cried" and "That's all I can do". Because of his addiction to heroin, Excello fired him back in 1970. In 1974, Kip was sentenced to 10 years in prison for possession of heroin.

History of Soul

1960 / 1962

La session chicagoane donne de solides titres Soul comme "I get carried away", "If that don't make you cry" avec notamment le pianiste Sonny Thompson.

It seems that another session was recorded in 1967, but unfortunately it has never been issued.

Parmi les meilleurs pistes, retenons "Drinkin' wine spo-dee-o-dee", "It should've been me", "Down in the bottom", "When you're ugly like me".

Meeting between Nappy Brown and Kip Anderson produced by Marion Carter for the small Ripete label. The program is heavily loaded with a well orchestrated Jump Blues but sometimes lacking flame. Among the best tracks, let's remember "Drinkin' wine spo-dee-o-dee", "It should've been me", "Down in the bottom", "When you're ugly like me". But the rest of the program turns out to be wheezy.
